A "Red carpet affair"

Okay, so, let's just get over the fact that the prom this year is in the gym. We established that early on in the year, but many juniors and seniors are still skeptical about how the change in venue will affect the overall prom experience. Some upperclassmen have thought that prom would lose all of it’s magic because well it’s in the gym, and gyms are not necessarily made to look pretty. However, in an effort to change this opinion among the upperclassmen an assembly was held to clarify the whole prom situation as well as pump up students for the annual high school tradition.
Troy Kowalchuk and Oscany DeJesus, the CEOs of the senior and junior classes, worked together to give an amazing speech outlining what we could expect at prom this year. Through their words it was made clear that form prom the gym will be transformed completely and not look like a gym at all. The CEOs also talked about various fundraisers for the prom in order to reduce ticket cost, while still being able to give the gym the “wow” factor when entered by students.
Personally, I am convince that the prom will look amazing this year regardless of it being in the gym. A perk of the prom being in the gym instead of the Radisson is that the prom committee has not only more time to decorate, but also greater freedom in choosing what the venue will look like and other surprises for the prom-goers. Being a part of the prom committee myself, I know of the fun surprises we are looking to keep secret, as well as decorating ideas that will make the prom be amazing. I can tell you, with an insider’s point of view, that prom committee is going to make this prom at BHS the best prom yet, despite setbacks met with earlier in the year.
When asked about the ticket price for this years prom, which currently are meant to be $70, senior Megan Danis responded, “The cost of the ticket may seem expensive to some students, especially since it is in our gym but I know I would pay that to go. The reason being is that I want them to ensure the gym will not look like a gym, but a nice venue and I know that they can do this if they have enough money.” This opinion, while being unpopular, is the correct way to look at ticket prices. Currently, the ticket price is so high because this year it is required to pay for expenses, like draping for the gym and Bulldog Corner, which did not need to be worried about last year. Prom committee hope that with the help of sponsors, which you students can work to get, will allow for the ticket price to be able to be reduced. So basically if you want the price of your ticket to go down, get more sponsors and buy yourself a star on the BHS Walk of Fame.
I feel strongly that this prom will look and be amazing, despite having the unappealing location of the gym. This prom will allow for students to realize what the gym can transform into, will tons of drapery and carpeting. Keep an open mind about prom, and do not say you will not go because of the location, as I can guarantee you will miss out on a spectacular night. Prom is an experience not dictated of how the venue looks or whether or not the gym smells like the gym. Prom is a night that is determined by what you, yourself, make of it; so just ask yourself the question “Will I regret not going to prom in ten years?,” and buy yourself a prom ticket when sales begin in April.
