An Artistic Outlet

Going to art club is a very relaxing way to start off monday mornings. The club meets during Monday advisory activity period. Without having something to do during that time, it can be pretty boring, so art club is a great way to spend that time because it gives students an opportunity to be creative, as well as earn school activity hours. The members are talented and very friendly, so there is a lot of socializing, and it is a great way to meet new people. The club is a student run organization, meaning that the students are in charge of planning the projects they want to do. Elections are held each year to determine the president, vice president, secretary, and treasurer. The secretary keeps track of what happens during each meeting, and posts it to the art club website. The treasurer keeps track of the money. The president and vice president are responsible for planning fundraisers and coming up with projects students can work on throughout the year.
Last year the club worked on pop art paintings for the majority of the year. Meliha Ulker, a sophomore at BHS, thinks “The contrast with vibrant colors allowed us to understand pop art culture. But because it was only thirty minutes each morning most students did not have enough time to progressively work on their paintings”. Many of the members enjoyed doing this project and put a lot of hard work into it. The paintings turned out great. They had a lot of eye catching bright colors and were very fun to create. The club also made paper snowflakes and christmas ornaments to get into the christmas spirit.
This year art club is hoping to do even more fun activities. So far they have made posters promoting art club and had a technology conference. Olivia Bouthaught, a sophomore, has recently been elected as president of art club. One of the projects she planned for this year is to make an outline of an animal and then use zentangles to fill it in. She wants each member to do this and then add them together in some way in order to make a jungle like theme. Grace Silha is excited to start this project and said, “It sounds cool and interesting to do. It is a creative art that most people can do, and it can express your inner spirit”. The overall atmosphere of art club is very positive and full of creativity.
