Iowa Caucus

Though there’s a week away until our own primaries, election season is officially under way with the Iowa Caucus having begun and ended last night. As the votes came in live, it seemed very close race for both parties; indeed, it was the closest Democratic race in Caucus history with Hilary pulling ahead at 50% and Bernie Sanders at 49%. Martin O’Malley suspended his own campaign after only coming in at a mere 1%.
The same can be seen on the Republican side, with the votes showing who the strongest candidates were. Cruz secured the win with 28%, pulling ahead of Trump who, though he seemed to have a lot of support in the polls, only had 24% of the voters. Rubio wasn’t far behind, however, with 23%-only a very small margin between him and Trump. The last 25% was split between the remaining 9 candidates and led to the suspension of Huckabee’s campaign as well.
This is a race that had seemed tight from the start and the results have shown who to look out for in the coming days. It has also shown the importance of being involved and supporting who you want to lead our country. Primary Day is less than a week away so make sure you go vote!
