A whale-y good cause

In 2013, a movie named “Blackfish” was released that exposed the horrors of whale captivity occurring at SeaWorld. After watching the movie, seniors Kelsey Murphy, Julia Elmendorf, and Lindsey Poremba, all students working on their CAS project, decided to team up to raise awareness about whale captivity occurring at SeaWorld. They created a movement at Bedford High School which they called Whale Week. When asked about what Whale Week was, Murphy explained that “It was basically a week inspired by the movie Blackfish. We did it to raise awareness about whale captivity at SeaWorld and encourage people to get involved by raising money to donate to whale charities against whale captivity.”...read more

Exchange is coming
Cailin Climer'16 During the fall of 2014, exchange students from Valladolid, Spain are coming to Bedford, New Hampshire. In the spring of 2015, students from Bedford High may have the chance to travel to their school, Núñez de Arce. This program is entirely new to Bedford, recently approved by the school’s administration. The goal of the exchange is to strengthen cultural ties with the Spanish students, and, in the future, to have the possibility of further expanding the program...read more |

A new change to advisory was put in effect last week, Principal Hagen announced a new scheduling change to all of Bedford High: an additional long advisory. Beginning on November 18th, every Tuesday will include time for a 25 minute advisory. Kayleigh Bohan'16 This community service project was started in June of 2013 by Courtney Pederson and two students from Manchester who represented their schools at a leadership conference last year. They have raised over $2,000 in the last six months. The group receives a lot of support from our senator, Jeanne Shaheen and encourages the organization to help kids get fit and stay healthy...read more |

BHS’s Science Olympiad Team has been working hard this year, and it paid off when the team saw improvement in their rankings at Merrimack High School’s 2nd Annual New England Invitational Science Olympiad Competition. The competition took place on February 8, and the team claimed 5th place overall, out of 17 other teams from all around New England...read more
