Things are looking up

Despite the fact that the Bedford Varsity Basketball teams lost a significant amount of talented seniors this past year, this year’s boys and girls are holding their own on the court. Not only are they successful, they are entertaining.
Each game has been close, especially in the boys games. However, as Katniss would say, “the odds haven’t been in their favor.” Coming down to a measly point or two, these nail biting games are still meeting several defeats.
Win or lose, these young men are continuing to give it all they’ve got, and it has shown through their performance. As of right now they have won more games than they have lost, and the “we’ll get there” mentality transfers onto the court to show their potential.
The season is not over yet, and they have many more chances to come together and get Bedford a championship. They have very determined athletic players - players like Colby Gendron and Ryan Brown’15, boys who know the game like the back of their hand.
This team, more than anything, wants to win, and that is the best mentality to have. It is what drives most underdogs to a season of ultimate success. With great coaches who have been in the “business” for a while, the boys can be led to victory.
As for the girls basketball team, their performance this year is equally impressive. Most in the athletic community understood that this season would be very different from past seasons due to the loss of five incredible seniors, but none knew whether the girls would continue to be as successful.
Head Coach Sue Thomas said, “While I do miss last year’s seniors, it has been really fun to work with a new group of players. All of the girls are great players and great people, so while it has been different it has been great!”
Right now the team is reeling in the wins. With ten victories and one loss to Londonderry, their performance has amassed to an impressive season when faced with difficult changes to adapt to.
Most notable for their performance on the court is Jenoyce Laniyan’17. Laniyan, who is new to Bedford this year, has been an incredible asset to the team. However, players like Mia Roy’18 and Bri Purcell’16 are certainly a “force to reckon with”.
With teams set up for great potential in the face of new challenges, competition is looking up for both teams this year. Come show your Bulldog spirit at the upcoming games, because the upcoming games will certainly be intense.
