rebuilding a team

Girl’s soccer has been off to an impressive start this season. After losing four players in addition to last year’s seniors, the team was forced to rebuild. Evidently, they were up for the challenge.
“No one was really thrown off, it was more of a chance for our team to refocus,” says senior captain Becca Rooney on the loss of last year’s teammates.
“Most girls play more than one position so it gives our coach plenty of options and combinations to fill all positions.” Regan Schiappa, also a senior captain agreed.
She adds, “Our team has always been very good at taking challenges and trying to turn them into something positive.”
Their hard work and determination as a team is clear when watching them on the field. The girls have rallied and proved their standing as a contender for the title this year, currently holding a record of five strong wins and two tough losses. The team has demonstrated their ability to battle, playing hard until the end against top seeds such as (undefeated) Pinkerton and Central.
“Our team works really well together. We may not have gotten the results we wanted in our game against Central and Pinkerton but I know we can compete with them and win as a team,” says junior Saylor Clark.
Clark has been one of the many key players this season, proving herself as a showcase both offensively and defensively. She hopes this year, along with the rest of her team, to finish the remainder of the season strong.
As the season goes on, it is obvious the improvement that is made. Each game brings a new challenge and opportunity for the team to grow. Schiappa comments about how the team’s success is due not only to hard work and talent, but friendship and a strong support system.
“We have found what works. We support each other and trust they will play great wherever they are put.”
This year has strong potential to be the fourth consecutive season the girls make it to the finals. Nashua North, Concord and Londonderry are a few of the upcoming opponents in the weeks to come. Be sure to support your Lady Bulldogs as they continue their path to the ship!
